FRIDAY KHUTBA of TOKYO CAMII “THE BELIEVER IS TRUSTING AND TRUSTWORTHY”
“THE BELIEVER IS TRUSTING AND TRUSTWORTHY”
Dear Muslims!
In the verse I have recited, our Lord Almighty (swt) states, “He is the One Who sent down serenity upon the hearts of the believers so that they may increase even more in their faith.”1
In the hadith I have read, our beloved Prophet (saw) says, “The best of you is the one whose goodness is hoped for, and from whose evil people are safe.”2
Dear Believers!
From the moment we are born, we all want to feel safe and secure. We want to be safe from evil, and be free from our worries and fears. We all strive to live peacefully in a safe environment. This is because the feeling of being safe is one of the greatest blessings that Allah the Almighty (swt) has bestowed upon us after faith.
Dear Muslims!
The believer is a person of trust in word and deed. He is a fortress of faith who makes his brothers and sisters feel that they are safe. The believer is aware that he is responsible for everything and everyone to the extent of his power. We believe that faith entails trust. A believer is the one who trusts and is trusted. The universe is entrusted to human beings and human beings are entrusted to each other. In this regard, the Messenger of Allah (saw) says, “A Muslim is someone from whose hand and tongue other Muslims are safe. A believer is someone on whom people can rely regarding their lives and properties.”3 That is why it is a grave sin to act in a way that undermines trust and to attempt against another person’s life and property.
I would like to conclude this Friday’s khutbah with the following verse that expresses the trust of the Prophet (saw) in Allah (swt) during the most troubled moment of the hijrah: “While they both were in the cave, he reassured his companion, ‘Do not worry! Allah is certainly with us.’ So Allah sent down His serenity upon the Prophet…”4
