Friday Khutba Of Tokyo Camii “Alcoholic Beverages: Evil’s Toxic Friend”
Honorable Muslims!
Islam sets out rules to ensure the safety and security of our life, wealth, mind, faith, and generation. It forbids all kinds of bad habits that endanger our health, disturb our mental balance, waste our wealth, and damage our family. This is why alcohol is haram. In this regard, Prophet Muhammad (saw) says in a hadith, “Every kind of drink that intoxicates one is deemed khamr (alcoholic beverage) and every kind of khamr is forbidden.”1
Dear Believers!
Alcohol or alcoholic beverages distort the mind, soul, and body that are each precious entrustments to and blessings for us from Allah (swt). They cause the wealth to be thrown away for nothing and the subsistence to be wasted while it should be spent for halal means. The peace of the family, the hopes of the children, and the future of the youth are darkened because of alcohol. While the doors leading towards the good get shut, the paths to the evil increase because of alcohol.
Allah the Almighty (swt) warns us in the Qur’an against alcohol as follows: “Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?”
Dear Muslims!
Let us use our mind and will for halal and pleasant things that Allah (swt) will be pleased with. Let us never allow alcohol to take our society captive that numbs people, drags them into laziness and despair, and makes them a tool for the evil. Let us build a healthy, peaceful and happy future together.
