February’s Special Open Lecture “Yemen – People and History”
February’s Special Open Lecture “Yemen – People and History”
“not a desert Arabia” “not eloquent Arabia” “not an oil giant Arabia” – Yemen is such ‘yet another Arabia.’ And perhaps in this ‘yet another Arabia’ lies an important key to understanding Arabia that we have overlooked until now. Suppose we put aside the stereotype of the “hard-to-understand Arabia.” In that case, I believe the country and people of Yemen have many aspects that are quite easy for Japanese people to understand among the Arab World…
…Regardless of the situation, Yemenis will surely respond with pride based on their history. They will steadily solve what they can do step by step and will progress slowly without overdoing it. As long as they do not lose the pride of Jambiah, as long as they do not lose the greenness of its terraced fields, Yemen will always be ‘Arabia Felix.’
