Imam of Tokyo Camii, Cinar, addressed a message on the anniversary of the Marmara Earthquake.
Today of 22 years ago, on 17 August, Marmara Earthquake occurred and affected the entire Marmara. It was called the disaster of the century. It took its place in history as one of the most painful disasters experienced by our nation.
During this devastating disaster for our country, thousands of our citizens lost their lives, tens of thousands of our citizens were injured, left without a home, and remained displaced. Though the past years heal the wounds, neither our pain has relieved, nor our pain made us forget what we have lost. We will never forget for many years to come.
On the 17 August 1999 Marmara earthquake anniversary, I pray for Allah’s mercy on our brothers and sisters who passed away in this tremendous disaster. My condolences go to their relatives and our nation. I also hope that no one experiences such a disaster and pain again in Turkey and the world.
