June’s CLASSIC BOOK CLUB – I, IV & V by Tokyo Camii Institute

Our CLASSIC BOOK CLUB is organized by the Tokyo Camii Institute, consisting of students and researchers gathering in Tokyo Camii. The language will be Japanese.

From the second Saturday of this month, we will start to read “al-Adjurrumiya,” written by Ibn Adjurrum.

Born in Fez at the end of the 13th century, Ibn Adjurrum also was a Quranic recitation teacher. His name is said to be the origin of the English word “grammar.” “al-Adjurrumiya,” written in a way that makes it easy to memorize the complicated grammar of the Arabic language, has long been regarded as “the next textbook to learn after the Quran” and is still a favorite among Arabic learners. In the 16th century, it spread to non-Arabic-speaking Europe, where it was translated into most European languages and widely read.
