FRIDAY KHUTBA of TOKYO CAMII “OUR WEDDINGS SHOULD BE SIMPLE”

“OUR WEDDINGS SHOULD BE SIMPLE”

Dear Believers,
Marriage is one of the commandments of Allah the Almighty and a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). The beloved Prophet said: “Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me.”1 Marriage is a sacred agreement that gives religious, legal and moral responsibilities to both woman and man. It is not a burden; it is a blessing. It is not a hardship; it is compassion. Marriage does not mean meeting the biological needs only. It also includes the sharing of hearts, ideals, joys and sorrows.

Honorable Muslims,
As expressed by the Messenger of Allah (saw), marriage helps people to protect their eyes from haram and to guard their modesty.2 It is indeed the foundation and guarantee of a strong society and a bright future. It is the safe haven that shelters spouses from the evil, and a shield against all kinds of threats. Allah the Almighty explains this aspect of marriage in the Holy Qur’an as, “Your spouses are a garment for you as you are for them.”3

Dear Believers,
Then, let us all act in accordance with the consent of our Lord (swt) and the sunnah of our Prophet (saw). Let us lay the foundation for our children’s families with Basmalah. Let us observe the commands and prohibitions of Islam while organizing a wedding. Let us not violate the limits of privacy. Let us all stay away from all kinds of haram that harms people’s health and dignity. Let us all keep in mind that our Lord always sees us, and that He (swt) will certainly bring us to account for everything we do.
